Individual Therapy for Relationships

Cozy therapy office chair for individual therapy sessions in Ballard, Seattle

Sometimes, even when we are in a relationship we love, we find ourselves stuck showing up in ways that don't feel like who we want to be.

Maybe you feel anxious about your partner leaving you, even though they've promised they aren't going anywhere. Maybe you get triggered by things that don’t make sense to you, and you end up snapping or shutting down in moments when you want to be able to engage. Maybe you get stuck in an emotional pit for days on end and don’t know how to reach out to your partner until it's over, but worry it’s taking a toll on the relationship.

If you want to understand yourself better, and how the way you show up is shaping your relationship, individual therapy might be a good fit. It gives you space to unpack what happens for you as an individual: the relationships and experiences that have shaped you, and how they play out with your partner today.

In individual therapy for relationships, you will:

  • Recognize the patterned ways you show up in your closest relationships, including what triggers you to snap, shut down, or pull away

  • Explore the stories you hold about yourself and relationships that shape your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors

  • Work through past experiences that heighten anxiety, fear, or misunderstandings in your relationships

  • Build steadier ways to care for yourself through anxiety or low mood, and practice sharing your feelings and needs with the people you love

Sessions will be spent exploring your internal world and how you experience relationships. I'll use a blend of Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Lifespan Integration to partner with you in deepening your connection to yourself. I'll help you get to know the different parts of you that show up in your relationship, recognize and shift unhelpful stories about yourself and others, and process past experiences that affect how you connect today.

Ultimately, we will strengthen your relationship with yourself so that you can connect more deeply with the people you love.
